Because the corsets emphasized the hourglass figure of the women, you can surmise that pregnant women were not able to wear these swimsuits.When the bikini came on the scene, around 1946, the world of maternity swimsuits was changed for the better. The bikini allowed for a belly-proud attitude, and the pregnant woman could display her tummy for everybody to see.With the more free attitude in society regarding body image, more and more pregnant women began to wear maternity swimsuits to public beaches and pools without fear of recriminations. Women can now choose from many styles ranging from the modest tankinis and baby dolls to the more revealing bikinis. Theres no longer any doubt - if you have the pregnant belly, you can flaunt it!
